What to Watch on Thanksgiving Day November 25, 2009

…when you’re baking, of course, or not watching football.  For example, I watch while I am in the kitchen.  Until my husband takes over, that is.  Luckily, I was smart enough to schedule all kinds of goodies to record, or I own seasons of many shows that include a Thanksgiving episode.

Here are some of those gems:

1.  Friends Thanksgiving re-runs.  They’ve been airing all week so far, but at least a few are available to record tonight if you are able.  Here in Denver, the channels for it are TBS in the afternoon and CW late-night.

2.  Chuck — season 1, “Chuck Versus the Nemesis”.  Chuck and Ellie do Thanksgiving, along with some guests, Sarah’s ex returns, and Black Friday at the Buy More is an even bigger disaster than usual.

3.  Gossip Girl — season 1, “Blair Waldorf Must Pie”.  The tension at the dinner table at the Humphrey house is likely to rival that of the upcoming T-Day episode set to air next Monday.  Plus, we get flashbacks to determine how those crazy kids came to be.

4.  Top Chef Thanksgiving Special — last year they aired this and I think it reruns tomorrow at something like 8am.  Maybe you’ll get some last-minute cooking ideas?

5.  Garfield’s Thanksgiving.  Now, this is a special one because I own the Garfield Holiday movie set.  Soooo while I may be fortunate enough to pop in a DVD, maybe it can be found on cable if you hunt around a bit.

Am I missing anything?  Are you a Charlie Brown fan?  Do you start watching Christmas movies on Turkey Day?  More power to you!  I don’t turn my nose up at anyone’s holiday traditions.  Whatever you watch and whomever you watch with, enjoy it!

TONIGHT September 15, 2009

Premiere of Biggest Loser.  I don’t want to watch it but [ahem] a certain friend of mine is making me for the time being.  I’m just letting you know, though, if I’m not feeling it then I’m out.  I simply can’t waste time watching and writing about shows that I no longer love.

That said, Project Runway is getting cut and I’m not picking up Dancing with the Stars this season because I think the cast is a bucket of crap.

And don’t forget to watch Flipping Out tonight as well!  My only gripe with this season is that I love watching the home renovations and we’re not seeing much of that since Jeff is broke and can’t afford to buy the houses to flip anymore.

What’s On This Week: 9/8 through 9/10 September 7, 2009

I’m out of town this week, so you’ll have to wait for my recaps upon my return.  In the meantime, here’s a quick list on what shows to focus on this week:

FLIPPING OUT.  Jeff Lewis’ assistant Rachel apparently quit for good last week, causing Jeff to feel broken up with.  So he obviously needs a new assistant and the new guy is a…felon?  Huh.  I’m surprised he even got hired.

90210.  The second season returns on Tuesday and even though that’s another one I don’t tune in for, I do like me some Lori Loughlin.  That woman has aged well.  Minus the overly-Bo’d forehead and too much lip plumper, those don’t look so grand.

It’s the first day of Premiere Month.  BUT that doesn’t necessarily mean much since the good stuff doesn’t get cranking for a couple of weeks.  Here’s what you can look forward to tonight:

1.  FLIPPING OUT — someone on Jeff’s staff quits.  Jeff says he feels as if he was broken up with.  I think it’s the new “assistant” Raquel.  Even though her and Jeff have been friends for a long time (since he was still dating women, in fact) that doesn’t mean they work well together.  Quite the opposite, actually.  Who wants to be talked down to and bossed around by a longtime friend?

2.  BROTHERS & SISTERS on DVD.  Season 3 comes out today.  Maybe I’m the only one who does this, but I particularly enjoy owning seasons of my favorite programs.  The first two seasons of this wonderful drama have gotten tons of use.  I lend them out to other people who I want to get hooked and start watching, or I’ll sit down and watch certain episodes myself when I’m feeling nostalgic towards the good old days (hello, Kitty’s co-worker Warren).

Today is my mother’s birthday, though, so I probably won’t be watching much.  I had to do a shout-out to her since it’s one of those years that isn’t all that exciting.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY LADY!

It’s my favorite night of television until Brothers & Sisters, Dexter, and Desperate Housewives begin on Sunday, September 27 (that’s right, that means only one month to go).

Tonight’s roster includes:

More fabulous guest stars (even though Lindsay Lohan wasn’t all that fab) will be gracing our screens soon.  Not sure if tonight is one of those nights but I look forward to finding out.  Kind of fun to travel back in time by 14 months and see Heidi pre-baby bump.  Must be hard to be the winner of this season and keep that secret for so long!

All things Nene Leakes!  Lisa threatens to rip off Kim’s wig AND eyebrows!  Kandi writes a song “inspired” by Kim!  Nene and Lisa travel to LA to visit Lisa’s family!  The number of exclamation points should give it away; I am downright excited to cozy up to my television tonight with a full glass of Riesling.  I kind of promised my husband I’d make dinner but once that’s done I’ll be having a serious relationship with my flat screen.

The chefs continue scorching up the kitchen, and there’s big stuff to be won this season — they compete not only for immunity and prizes, but $10,000 casino chips to boot.  I have a feeling that things will only get more heated as the season goes on since a lot is at stake throughout the season and not just for the winner.

I figured out why I write about this show — it’s because people like reading about it.  Generally I try to entertain the masses and obviously I prefer to write about shows I’m passionate about (which doesn’t include this one, I know it’s a surprise) but day after day this blog comes up on search hits for Real World.  Tonight we will witness a threesome between Jonna, Pat, and Ayiiia, I do believe.  Should be a real doozy of an episode.

Not looking so worse for the wear

Not looking so worse for the wear

You probably aren’t a Rachel Zoe fan.  I know I wasn’t before I watched an episode.  She used to style Nicole Richie back in the day, and there were all those nasty rumors that she encourages her clients to starve themselves.  She herself probably weighs 80 lbs. and has a concave chest.  Not to mention the fact that Perez Hilton despises her and regularly posts pictures announcing “Raisin Face” on his blog.  And so, okay, those things may or may not be true.

What is true is that Zoe is chauffeured around L.A. and NYC with a giant Starbucks cup on hand at all times (she says it contains chai, I don’t know about that) and a perpetual pair of enormous sunglasses, zipping in to vintage stores and spending tens of thousands of dollars on goodies for herself which she then must hide from husband Rodger.
